How do I uninstall versions older than 1.0.1.254? |
To completely uninstall older versions of Datacatch Librarian Standard & Professional require some manual deleting of files. Without doing this your new install may not function correctly.
Take the following steps; 1. If Datacatch Librarian is running, exit by right clicking the icon in the system tray. 2. Uninstall the old version through the Control Panel. If you were running Professional you may also like to uninstall Microsoft SQL Express also, during the uninstall of SQL be sure to only tick the uninstall Datacatch instant only. 3. To remove old setting you will need to manually delete all Datacatch folders from c:\Documents and Settings\%user name%\Local Settings\Application Data\Datacatch
That's it, now download the lastest version from the Datacatch web site and your ready to go. Versions newer than 1.0.1.3 do not require the above actions, simply uninstall through the control panel.

From the Datacatch Librarian tool bar menu, select to Activate the software.

Why am I not able to activate Datacatch Librarian? |
You require an Internet connection to activate a full licensed version of Datacatch Librarian. Problems can occur when a firewall or other Internet security setting blocks the response from the Datacatch activation server, which must be received by your computer before you can start using the software.
It may be necessary for you to change your security settings to always allow Datacatch Librarian to access the Internet. You should be able to find instructions on how to do this in the online help for your browser of firewall software. |

When browsing in Windows Explorer, why does nothing happen when I right-click or double-click items in my library? |
Very early versions of Datacatch Librarian (prior to release 1.0.1.254) experience this issue due to a non-critical security update issued by Microsoft on 9-Aug-2006 (KB921398)
To fix this problem, simply uninstall your current version of Datacatch Librarian, and then download and install the latest version, which contains a fix for this problem. |

After catching a DVD in Datacatch Librarian, do I still need to retain the DVD? |
Yes. Datacatch Librarian captures details about the data stored on the DVD (such as file and folder names and image thumbnails)—it does not capture the actual files. After using Datacatch Librarian to tell you which piece of media contains the file you want, you then need to retrieve that piece of media to access the actual file. |
| |
After I close Datacatch Librarian, why does it still appear in Windows Explorer? |
Datacatch Librarian is integrated into Windows Explorer, which means that it is always visible even when it is not in use (in the same way as you can see a CD or DVD drive even when no disc is inserted). |
| |
Why are all of the Datacatch Librarian options shown twice in the Windows Explorer File menu? |
The File menu of Windows Explorer shows the available options for the currently selected item. When you have a storage location or piece of media selected within Datacatch Librarian, the Datacatch Librarian options are shown twice in the file menu: once for the application, and the second time for the selected location or media. This is consistent with typical Windows behavior. |
| |
Why does Datacatch Librarian think that my printer is a USB key? |
Datacatch Librarian has recognized that a device containing data is connected to your computer's USB port, and assumed that device is a USB key. For example, many modern printers contain their own storage that is used to hold files including drivers and settings. |
| |
Can I export my Datacatch Librarian database details to use with another application? |
Yes. The easiest way to do this is to use the report generator to select the data you want to report. The report generator supports a number of different export formats including RPT, PDF, XLS, DOC, and RTF. (Professional Version only) |
