Datacatch Extends Google Desktop Search to Locate Offline Removable Media Files

SAN FRANCISCO , California - March 20 , 2007 - Datacatch Inc., today released the Datacatch Desktop Search Plug-in. This free plug-in extends the search capabilitities of both Google Desktop Search and Datacatch Librarian, allowing users to search their offline removable media and desktop in a single operation.

The consumer and small office/home office (SOHO) markets regularly turn to low-cost removable media and portable media solutions to store an every-growing amount of data including files, photos, movies, music, and business archives.

However, as libraries of removable hard drives, CDs, DVDs, HD-DVDs, Blu-ray discs, USB thumb drives, and flash memory cards grow larger, the time and costs involved in retrieving an individual item or piece of data from that library increases significantly. The data is often never found.

The award-winning Datacatch Librarian, which was released in 2006, solve this problem by providing powerful search and media storage management for all types of removable media. With the new Google Destop Search plug-in, Datacatch further extends this capability by adding removable media to the already extensive Google Desktop Search index.

"With the Datacatch Desktop Search Plug-in you can retieve archived files in seconds, not hours or days. You will never loose an application disc or backup file again" said Lindsay Lyon, chief executive officer, Datacatch.

"In business it can cost you a customer, or worse still your job, when you need to retrieve information quickly, but aren't exactly sure where it is located. With the Datacatch Desktop Search Plug-in, you can search your removable media libraries, cumputer's hard drive and the Internet in a single search , you can search your removable media library, computer's hard drive, and the Internet in a single operation. Within seconds find the information needed and get on with your work."

"We've also included the popular storage location functionality from Datacatch Librarian with this new assistant. This means that not only does Google Desktop Search tell me which piece of removable media contains the file I need, it also tells me where to locate that media, right down to a slot number within a CD rack," Mr Lyon said.

Datacatch Librarian is totally integrated with Microsoft Windows so provides a familar view of archives, backups, and other data stored on removable media. To locate a particular document, file, or photo, a user simply browses files, folders, and thumbnail images in the same way as browsing a computer's hard drive. Alternatively, a user can type in a title or file name into the Windows search engine to locate the removable media.
